We recently had Liana Williams, a grade 12 student of Triple C School, for work experience from May 22 through to May 26. Liana focused on nursing and rotated through vitals, our General Ward (including High Dependency Units) and our Surgical and Medical Intensive Care Units whilst gaining real-world experience in a field she is curious about. Liana advises future students to “ask lots of questions” to make the most of their experience. Health City is in high demand annually as a work experience site for public and private high school students. “Unlike your typical work experience placement, we host students with an interest in a medical, surgical or allied health care,” explains Charles D. Bush, Senior Education Coordinator. “We provide these students with real-time exposure to the career they’re interested in, to help them in their discernment process.” Many students later apply to the Shadow a Doctor programme or the Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF).
